CityLight Pastor Commentary:

Considerable effort has been spent by well-meaning Christians who try to discern the exact timing of end time prophecy. There have been men and women who claim to know exactly when Jesus Christ will return. Yet the Bible says not even Jesus Christ Himself knows when that time will be (Matt 24:36). We must clearly differentiate between what we can control versus what we cannot, and how we can contribute to the Kingdom of God versus how we cannot. Trying to predict the exact date of Christ’s second coming is not a good use of energy. Matt 24:14 says that Jesus will not come again until the Gospel has been preached to all the earth. Witnessing is our primary mission as Christians, and we should focus on reaching new people as opposed to prophesying destruction. Instead of devoting our time, effort and energy to something that we can never know, we should devote it to spreading the Gospel.

“Father, help me to be an effective witness! I’m not going to worry about when exactly Jesus is coming back because I have no control over it; I’m only going to focus on spreading Your Good News and be ready when He gets here!”
