Commentary from Pastor Mike White:

You shall not revile God, nor curse a ruler of your people. – Ex 22:28

It’s easy to curse a ruler. All of us have leaders with whom we disagree. All of us have heard our president, or our mayor, or maybe even the head of the local PTA, say something that rubs us the wrong way. It’s easy to curse; it’s much harder to pray for the men and women in leadership all around us.

The men and women in authority over New York City were put there by God. The men and women in our local, state and national governments were also placed there, strategically, by our Father in heaven (see Rom 13:1). Paul exhorts Timothy to pray for, “…kings and all who are in authority” (1 Tim 2:1-2). Are you praying for your leaders?

We all want our leaders to do and say the right things. Our prayers are what will get them there. Without our prayers, our leaders don’t stand a chance; but when we pray, they will be protected from evil and empowered to do good.

Prayer:

Father, help me to remember to pray for the men and women in authority in this great nation. Remind me to pray for local, state and federal officials. Remind me to pray for political and religious leaders all over the world. They need my prayers; and I am ready and willing to provide them!
