Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
So God blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them: “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth.” – Gen. 9:1
Noah and his family had just lived through a mass extinction. Every living creature that had not been in the ark (which we know is symbolic of being inside of covenant with God) was killed by a flood. When the waters receded, it was time to reset. It was time to rebuild! And do you know what God chose to do first?
He blessed Noah. He blessed Noah’s entire family! Do you remember what God did to mankind in the beginning? He “blessed them” (Gen. 1:28). And as mankind began anew with Noah’s family, God blessed them again.
God’s heart is to bless you. It always has been! It always will be. He wants to bless you because you are His. It is His first intention and His last intention. God wants to see you blessed. Isn’t it such a comfort to know that God created you to bless you?
Prayer:
Father, thank You for blessing me. I know your blessing of Adam and Noah set the tone for how You want to relate to me for my entire life. Your desire is to bless me! My destiny is to be blessed! And I am so grateful, in Jesus’ name.
