Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Immediately [Judas] went up to Jesus and said, “Greetings, Rabbi!” and kissed Him. But Jesus said to him, “Friend, why have you come?” Then they came and laid hands on Jesus and took Him. – Matt 26:49-50
No matter what you’ve done, Jesus calls you friend. No matter what you’re planning to do, Jesus calls you friend. There is nothing you can do that is so big and ugly that it overshadows the love Jesus has for you!
Here was Judas, about to betray Jesus. He had followed Jesus, and Jesus had loved him with all His heart; yet Judas still fell into sin. But even as Judas was about to betray Jesus to His face, Jesus calls him “friend!”
God is for you. He loves you with everything He is, even in the depths of your sin. Because of the Cross of Jesus Christ, God’s love for you cannot be quenched. No matter what you have done, God calls you friend!
No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you. – Jn 15:15
Prayer:
Father, thank You for calling me friend! I declare that the Cross of Jesus Christ is big enough to blot out all my sins: past, present and future. I am a friend of God!
