Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Then all the disciples forsook Him and fled. – Matt 26:56

All the disciples fled. Every. Single. One. But Jesus didn’t hate them for it. He didn’t turn His back on them! He forgave them.

After the Resurrection, Jesus met His disciples as they were gathered together, planning their next move. He could have yelled at them. He could have rebuked them! After all, every single disciple promised to stay by His side, even unto death; and none of them followed through. But Jesus showed His disciples that despite their imperfection, His will for them had not changed:

So Jesus said to them…, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.” – Jn 20:21-23

Jesus didn’t draw back for His disciples because they messed up. He gave them even more. He gave them His Holy Spirit, and empowered them to forgive in His name!

You aren’t perfect. You will make mistakes. But God’s will for you does not change. He wants you to have His perfect peace. He wants to fill you with His Holy Spirit! He wants you to be an ambassador of His perfect love, everywhere you go.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your perfect peace! Thank You for Your unchanging will: to bless me and to prosper me! I receive all that You have for me, in Jesus’ name.
