Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
“So the priest shall make atonement for him before the Lord, and he shall be forgiven for any one of these things that he may have done in which he trespasses.” – Lev 6:7
When the Old Testament priest made atonement for any sin committed before the Lord, the sinner would be forgiven. Forgiveness starts with repentance. Repentance means to change one’s mind[1]: to make a decision that what God has for you is better than anything the world can offer! When repentance occurs, atonement can happen. Atonement means to cover.[2] Whenever a sinner came to the priest, his sin would be covered by the blood of a sacrifice.
God is faithful to forgive! Under our New Covenant with God through Jesus Christ, the blood of Jesus atones for all sin: every single one! When atonement happens, we are forgiven. When repentance takes place, forgiveness is guaranteed! No matter what you’ve done: Jesus’ sacrificial death on the Cross atones for every one of your sins.
You are forgiven in Jesus’ name!
Prayer:
Father, thank You for the blood of Jesus! Thank You that His blood covers all my sins: past, present, and future. I will rest in my forgiveness in Jesus’ name!
