Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
“So the priest shall make atonement for him before the Lord, and he shall be forgiven for any one of these things that he may have done in which he trespasses.” – Lev 6:7
When the Old Testament priest made atonement for any sin committed before the Lord, the sinner would be forgiven. Forgiveness starts with repentance. Repentance means to change one’s mind: to make a decision that what God has for you is better than anything the world can offer! When repentance occurs, atonement can happen. Atonement means to cover. Whenever a sinner came to the priest, his sin would be covered by the blood of a sacrifice.
God is faithful to forgive! Under our New Covenant with God through Jesus Christ, the blood of Jesus atones for all sin: every single one! When atonement happens, we are forgiven. When repentance takes place, forgiveness is guaranteed! No matter what you’ve done: Jesus’ sacrificial death on the Cross atones for every one of your sins.
You are forgiven in Jesus’ name!
Father, thank You for the blood of Jesus! Thank You that His blood covers all my sins: past, present, and future. I will rest in my forgiveness in Jesus’ name!
