Commentary from Pastor Mike White:
Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. – Ps 37:3
We are directed to feed both on God’s word (see Psalm 1), and on His faithfulness. To ‘feed on’ sounds like a lot of work. When I think about eating, that means I have to go and get food. I have to either prepare it myself, which requires labor, or buy food somewhere, which requires resources. However, God doesn’t want us to do that when it comes to His Word.
God simply asks us to make ourselves available for His revelation. To ‘feed on’ is the Hebrew, ra’ah (Strong’s #7462), which means ‘to be fed.’ God does the feeding; it is up to us to open our mouths.
The KJV translation of Ps 37:3 doesn’t say ‘feed on;’ it says ‘thou shalt be fed.’ The original Hebrew word means to graze. as would a flock. In other words, God is more than willing to put abundant revelation in front of us; all we have to do is position our heads close to the good stuff and eat!
God has found us fit to receive His word from a place of abundance and rest; never from a place of striving to understand, and having to work for His truth. Hallelujah!
Prayer:
Father, thank You for the amazing provision I find in Your word! Your word gives me the strength I need, and refreshes me whenever I need direction and revelation. Thank You for making revelation available and abundant!
