Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Now the Lord had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, from your family and from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you.” – Gen. 12:1
God did not call you to live a life of comfort! He called you to live a life of obedience. Abraham was comfortable! But God didn’t want Abraham to stay comfortable. He wanted him to change the world; and that would require a great step of faith from Abraham. Abraham left his land and his family – everything he knew – and followed God. Will you?
Are you ready to risk it all for Jesus? Are you ready to step out and do what God has called you to do, no matter the cost? Abraham was richly rewarded for his faith. God made him, “…very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold” (Gen. 13:2). He, “… died in a good old age, an old man full of years” (Gen. 25:8) He was blessed because he did what God told him to do; and so to will you be.
Prayer:
Father, I want to follow Jesus, no matter the cost! Call me out; and then fill me with the obedience required to follow You, in Jesus’ name!
