Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
And behold, one of the rulers of the synagogue came, Jairus by name. And when he saw Him, he fell at His feet and begged Him earnestly, saying, “My little daughter lies at the point of death. Come and lay Your hands on her, that she may be healed, and she will live.”- Mk. 5:22-23
Jairus needed a miracle. His little daughter was about to die, and he knew that Jesus was the only One who could help: “Come and lay Your hands on her, that she may be healed, and she will live.”
Jairus had to come to Jesus! He came, and Jesus responded to his cry:
So Jesus went with him, and a great multitude followed Him and thronged Him. – Mk. 5:24
You do not have because you do not ask![1] If you need Jesus to show up in your life, the onus is on you to come to Him and ask for what you need according to His Word.
But also notice how Jairus came to Jesus. He “fell at His feet.” Jairus came to Jesus and completely collapsed. He didn’t come to Jesus with his chest puffed out, pretending to know why his daughter was sick, and how she would be healed! He came humbled and desperate. He didn’t know how Jesus was going to do it; but he knew that Jesus was going to heal his daughter.
What miracle do you need in your life? Come to Jesus and fall at His feet. Don’t try to understand! Simply throw yourself at the feet of the King and ask Him to do what no one else can. Ask Him to heal! Ask Him to bless. Ask Him to do what no one else can possibly do, and He will respond to your request.
Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. – 1 Pet. 5:6-7
Prayer:
Father, I need healing. I need hope! I need breakthrough. So I am going to the only One who can help me. I am casting myself at the feet of Jesus, and humbly requesting that He come and do what He promised to do, in Jesus’ name!
