CityLight Pastor Commentary:
“Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while…” (Mk 6:31). Jesus commissioned His disciples to go out into the world and preach the Gospel, cast out demons and heal the sick. When they returned to Him to tell of all they had done and taught, He told them to rest. We spend much of our lives in our communities doing God’s work, which takes numerous shapes and forms. We run left and right, fulfilling obligations and taking time out for the people we love. We need to make time to return to Jesus and rest. The demands of life will never stop, and your to-do list will always continually fill up. The foot of the Cross is where we find respite. “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matt 11:28).
Prayer:
“Father, help me to rest. Rest does not mean immobility, but it does mean finding incomparable peace in every circumstance. Thank You for Your Son, and thank You for the Cross!”
