Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
So He called His disciples to Himself and said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all those who have given to the treasury; for they all put in out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all that she had, her whole livelihood.” – Mk 12:43-44
Jesus sat opposite the treasury and watched how the people gave (v 41). How the people gave was more important than how much. The condition of the heart was a more immediate priority for Jesus than the quantity of the currency.
Jesus was not impressed as many rich people gave much. What moved Him was a widow giving all that she had. The widow’s gift was counted as great – not because it was a large amount, but because it was all she had to offer!
Jesus gave everything – His own life – for us! Are you willing to give it all for Him?
Prayer:
Father, help me to give like the woman with the two mites. Help me to give it all – everything I have – as an offering to You. I give You my life. Use it as You please!
