Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Whenever the cloud was taken up from above the tabernacle, after that the children of Israel would journey; and in the place where the cloud settled, there the children of Israel would pitch their tents. – Num. 9:17

The children of Israel didn’t just follow the presence of God. They “pitched their tents” around it. They set up their lives to revolve around the presence of God and His Word!

To “pitch your tent” can also be translated as “abide.” Remember what Jesus told His disciples in John 15:

“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.” – Jn. 15:5

If you want to bear fruit (i.e. if you want to be effective for the Kingdom), you have to “abide” in Jesus. And to abide means to encamp around His presence! If what you’re attempting seems to be failing, here is what you need most: the presence of God.

Make your life revolve around His presence, and He will make His fruitfulness a measure of your life.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for the invitation to abide in You. I will encamp around Your presence. My life is going to revolve around Your presence and Your Word! I am so grateful for the way You meet me, You speak to me, and You strengthen me, in Jesus’ name!
