Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

So they departed from the mountain of the Lord on a journey of three days; and the ark of the covenant of the Lord went before them for the three days’ journey, to search out a resting place for them. – Num 10:33

The Israelites didn’t wander into the wilderness and ask God to follow them. They asked God to lead, and followed His presence. The ark of the testimony went first, and wherever His glory settled, the people would camp.

Too often, we ask God’s presence to follow us. We adopt an attitude opposite that of the children of Israel. We set out into unfamiliar territory, and turn around to see if God is coming! We make our own decisions, and then wonder if God is going to show up.

Scripture invites us to take the opposite approach. What does God want you to decide? Ask Him. Where is God going? Follow Him. What is He already doing? Join hands with the people already doing the work. God wants to partner with you; but He wants to lead!

Prayer:

Lord, remind me to let You lead. I want to experience Your presence every day of my life. Make me receptive to the things You are doing, and give me the courage to follow You – no questions asked!
