Commentary from Pastor Mike White:
“It truly flows with milk and honey, and this is its fruit. Nevertheless the people who dwell in the land are strong…” – Num 13:27-28
The men whom Moses sent to spy out the land of Canaan returned with grapes, pomegranates and figs: great fruit from a land of plenty. Yet instead of trusting in God’s promise that the land had been given to them, the Israelites were filled with doubt. Only Caleb stood up to encourage the people, but he was immediately shouted down by the other spies.
Whenever we are faced with obstacles, we must remember and recite (out loud!) God’s promises. If God makes a promise, He will keep it. There is always, however, partnership required on our part.
There is a difference between an inheritance and a possession. God immediately gave the Promised Land to the people of Israel as their inheritance. It was years, however, before they went in and possessed the land. The former process is immediate; the latter is a gradual process of faith.
What has God promised you? The enemy is strong; and he will do anything he can to keep you from possessing God’s promises; but God is stronger!
Prayer:
Father, help me to remember that if I’m presented with an obstacle, you make it an opportunity. I will remember Your promises, and act on them by faith!
