Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, “Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.” – Num 13:30

Caleb had just gone to spy out the Promised Land with eleven other men of Israel. They found the land was everything God said it would be: “It truly flows with milk and honey, and this is its fruit” (v 27). However, they also found that it was dangerous: “Nevertheless the people who dwell in the land are strong; the cities are fortified and very large…” (v 28).

God’s people had a choice: would they back away from God’s promise because it was difficult? Or would they embrace it head-on? Would they trust God to deliver their enemies into their hand?

Caleb took a stand. He made a decision not to shrink back from God’s promise. He seized the bull by the horns, and confidently proclaimed that God’s people were “well able” to take the land (v 30)!

God calls us to boldly seize opportunity. Caleb was bold: he was ready to launch out and take the land. How much bolder should we be since we are filled with the Spirit of the Living God?

Prayer:

Father, I declare that I am well able to take the land! You have made me a victor. You have made me an overcomer. I am going to overcome every obstacle that comes my way, because Your Holy Spirit is within me!
