Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

And I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you in their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and your descendants after you. – Gen 17:7

Abraham believed, and God accounted it to him for righteousness (Gen 15:6). Abraham was not righteous because he was perfect; he was righteous because he believed God’s promise!

When you believe in Jesus Christ, you are just as righteous as Abraham. Jesus is the greatest Promise you can ever receive: in Him you have eternal life. Galatians 3:29 says that if you have given your life to Jesus, you are, “…Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.” The promises God gave to Abraham apply to his descendants; and if you are in Christ, that means you!

God promised Abraham many things. He would multiply Abraham exceedingly (Gen 17:2). He would make him exceedingly fruitful (Gen 17:6). Nations and kings would come from him (Gen 17:6), and God would give him an inheritance he did not deserve as a permanent possession (Gen 17:8).

Take a moment to pray those promises over your life this morning. If you are a disciple of Jesus Christ, they apply to you! They will be activated when you believe.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for promising abundance and provision over my life. I know that I am blessed to be a blessing; you have given me Abraham’s promises as an inheritance so that I can share it to others. I am not worthy of your love, but you love me all the same!
