Commentary from Pastor Mike White:

Do you see yourself as God sees you? Abram had trouble believing that God could give him a son; when he heard God’s promise to him, he laughed (Gen 17:17). Sarai suffered from the same affliction; when she heard God’s promise of a son, she laughed too (Gen 18:12)! Do you have trouble believing what God’s word says about you? Do you let the opinions of other people override His promises for your life?

God changed Abram’s name to Abraham, to show just how serious He is about His promises. Then he changed Sarai’s name to Sarah. He proved, through the tangible demonstration of a name change, that He means what He says. Abraham means, “Father of many nations” (Gen 17:4). Sarah means “noblewoman” (Strong’s #8283) which signified that God was calling Abraham’s entire family into royalty. God referred to them with new names to show them who they really were!

So who does God say you are? Perhaps more importantly, who does He say you are not? You are not sinful. You are not despicable in His eyes. You are not destined to live a life of pain and suffering.

He calls You son. He calls You daughter. He calls You more than a conqueror. He calls you friend. It doesn’t matter what anyone else says. Now go and live out your destiny according to what He calls you!

Prayer:

Father, thank You for calling me Your child! Thank You for seeing me as completely righteous when I’m hidden in Your Son, Jesus Christ. Thank You that I live out His promises in my life. Help me to never forget who I am in Your eyes.
