Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
And Balaam said to Balak, “Look, I have come to you! Now, have I any power at all to say anything? The word that God puts in my mouth, that I must speak.” – Num. 22:38

Balak called Balaam to curse the people of Israel. Balak – the king of the Moabites – saw how God’s people “covered the face of the earth” (v 5) and he was afraid they would overrun him! So he tried to pay Balaam – a diviner – to curse them. But God’s message to Balaam was stern:

Then the Angel of the Lord said to Balaam, “Go with the men, but only the word that I speak to you, that you shall speak.” So Balaam went with the princes of Balak. – Num. 22:35

Balaam knew that he could not speak anything that wasn’t God’s Word. He didn’t have any “power” (v 38) to say anything that God had not put in his mouth. He refused to even so much as entertain the notion that he should ever say anything that wasn’t God’s will! He said what God told him to say: nothing more, and nothing less. He cursed what God told him to curse! And he blessed whom God told him to bless.

God will tell you what to say! You are God’s mouthpiece. He has put His law within you! He has written His Word on your heart (Jer. 31:33). He will tell you exactly what to say in any given situation if you rely on His Holy Spirit. The drawback is you don’t get to say whatever you want. But the benefit is you get to reap the supernatural benefit of always declaring His word.

So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it. – Isa. 55:11

Prayer:

Father, I will boldly declare Your Word! I am Your mouthpiece. I am Your messenger! Send me where You need me to go, and tell me what You need me to say, in Jesus’ name!
