Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, “Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.” – Lk 2:15
The shepherds heard the report; and now they needed to see for themselves. When Jesus was born, an angel of the Lord (v 9) came and told shepherds out in a field that their Messiah had been born. A “multitude of the heavenly host” (v 13) confirmed the news! But the shepherds acted on the word. They went to see Jesus face to face!
The shepherds heard it; so they wanted to see it. Hearing about God is different than experiencing God. Knowing about God is different than knowing His goodness! Don’t settle for a second-hand account. Insist on seeing Him for yourself!
Prayer:
Father, thank You for making Your presence known in my life. Give me the courage to seek You out with all my heart, all my mind, all my soul, and all my strength: in Jesus’ name!
