Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

And on the seventh day you shall have a holy convocation. You shall do no customary work. – Num 28:25

In Numbers 28, God outlined the Passover celebration for His people. They were to gather together on the seventh day of Passover for a “holy convocation:” a sacred & holy assembly. God’s message to His people was this: when you get together to worship, the gathering is holy. Something sacred is about to happen! God was telling His people that when we get together to pray and worship Him with our whole hearts, He shows up in a mighty way.

It’s also worth noting that whenever God’s people got together for a “convocation,” they were commanded not to work. This seventh day of Passover marked Israel’s victory over Egypt at the Red Sea. Inherent in their celebration of victory was a reminder that God had done all the work! God had won the victory; the people simply had to walk through the Red Sea as He parted the walls. When we rest, God works! When we are still, God moves.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for sacred & holy assemblies! Thank You for Your promise that when we get together in Your name, You will show up. Help me to remember that every victory in my life was won: not by me, but by You!
