Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when He overthrew the cities in which Lot had dwelt. – Gen. 19:29
God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah. The people in those cities were so sinful that God could no longer ignore it. Yet Abraham interceded for Sodom, because he knew his nephew Lot lived inside. And God “remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out” (v 29).
Your prayers matter. Abraham prayed, and God “remembered” (v 29). When you pray, God remembers! If Abraham hadn’t interceded for Lot, Lot would have died! As the world crumbles around us, will you lift the men and women who matter to you up in prayer?
For whom are you actively praying? For whom are you actively interceding? Are you approaching God and asking Him to spare people in your life who don’t know Jesus yet? Are you asking Him that He would give them time to receive Jesus and avoid destruction before He returns?
Prayer:
Father, thank You for protecting the people I pray for. Remind me to pray for other people every day. I know my prayers matter! And I thank You for protecting the people I come to You about, in Jesus’ name.
