Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. Hear my voice, O God, in my meditation; preserve my life from fear of the enemy. – Ps. 64:1
David’s enemies were attacking him. So he prayed! But take a close look at his prayer. He didn’t just pray that he would be preserved. He prayed that his life would be preserved from fear.
Fear is a contaminant. It will infect and corrupt your faith! When you fear, you start to forget about God’s promises. You fail to remember who God really is! Fear attracts things you don’t want in your life. Just ask Job!
For the thing I greatly feared has come upon me, and what I dreaded has happened to me. – Job 3:25
But I have good news today. God will rid you of fear when you ask Him to. He has “…not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (2 Tim. 1:7).
Fear is not God’s will. Instead of fear, He wants you to be filled with faith! And the more you remind yourself who God is, the more His abundant life and Resurrection power will wash over you like never before, in Jesus’ name!
Prayer:
Father, I ask that You would deliver me from all fear. Help me to understand that my fear impacts my faith and my ability to believe the promises of God. Lord, I am asking that You would replace my fear with faith, in Jesus’ name!
