Commentary from Pastor Mike White:
“Then we turned and journeyed into the wilderness…and the Lord spoke to me…” – Deut 2:1-2
We see a common theme throughout the Old Testament: God speaks to His people in the wilderness. Moses notes that obedience to God’s plan led him into the wilderness, and it was in that place that God spoke to him again.
But the theme of hearing from God in the wilderness does not stop in the Old Testament; it also permeates the New. Luke recounts that, “…the word of God came to John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.” He later recalls that, “…[Jesus] often withdrew into the wilderness and prayed.”
When we are in the toughest trials of our lives, God will speak to us. There is no pit so deep that His voice cannot ring out and fill the void. Trust God, and know full well that it is in the wilderness that you will find Him.
Prayer:
Father, protect me through my wilderness season. I have been longing for more of You. Meet me where I am, and comfort me as only You can!
