Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
“For the Lord your God has blessed you in all the work of your hand. He knows your trudging through this great wilderness. These forty years the Lord your God has been with you; you have lacked nothing.” – Deut 2:7

The people of Israel had been in the wilderness a long time! It had taken them forty years to make a trip that should have taken eleven days (Deut 1:2). But even when they were in the wilderness, God provided for them every step of the way.

Don’t focus on the delays; focus on God’s faithfulness. Don’t focus on all the things that seem to be going wrong in your life; focus all the times God provided for you, even when it didn’t seem like He could! Yes, Israel’s journey took a lot longer than expected. But God’s people weren’t dead; they were alive! They weren’t hungry; they were full! When you’re tempted to look at all the things God has yet to do, turn your attention to everything He’s already done!

Perspective brings hope: when you work to develop the former, God will supply the latter.

Prayer:

Father, give me healthy perspective! Help me to evaluate Your faithfulness in terms of what I have, and not what I’m missing. Help me to remember all You’ve done for me!
