Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
“Know today that I do not speak with your children, who have not known and who have not seen the chastening of the Lord your God, His greatness and His mighty hand and His outstretched arm…” – Deut. 11:2

God was not speaking to the, “…children, who have not known and who have not seen the chastening of the Lord…” (v. 2). He was speaking to the adults! The people of Israel had experienced victory (the Lord bringing them out of Egypt); but they had also experienced defeat (plague, wandering, and defeat at the hands of their enemies due to their own disobedience). But God’s promise, through it all, was that the more that they experienced and tasted life, the more they would hear His voice.

You’ve been through some stuff. Some of it has been good! And some of it has been bad. But the fruit of it all – whether you realize it or not – is you know how to listen to God’s voice. You know when something is from Him, and when it’s not! Because your life experience has taught you how to listen to the voice of God.

What you’ve been through is not a curse; it is a blessing that allows you to hear the voice of the Lord more clearly than ever before. God has endowed you with an incredibly valuable skill: to hear His voice at all times.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for speaking to me. Thank You for enhancing the clarity of Your voice with every passing moment, and with every passing experience! The more I walk through life, the more I will hear You. I declare it in Jesus’ name!
