Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
But when Jesus heard it, He answered him, saying, “Do not be afraid; only believe, and she will be made well.” – Lk 8:50
Jairus came to Jesus, fell at His feet, and begged for Jesus to come heal his daughter. Jesus agreed; but on the way, they got sidetracked. The trip to Jairus’ house took too long, and his daughter died. “Your daughter is dead,” said his servant. “Do not trouble the Teacher” (v 49).
In that moment, Jairus had a choice. Would he become afraid, or would he believe? Would he let death win, or would he insist that Jesus is the Bringer of life? If Jairus had let fear take over, his daughter would have died; but because he was filled with faith, she lived!
Life consists of critical moments where we have to choose between faith or fear. We can activate or cancel God’s plan with our response to crisis. Jesus was not troubled; so Jairus had no need to fear!
Choose faith. Say yes. And watch what God brings back to life.
Prayer:
Father, help me to choose faith! I rebuke all fear in my life in the name of Jesus. From this moment forward, fear has no hold on me in Jesus’ name!
