Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
“And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’” – Matt. 7:23
There will be many people who think they are getting into Heaven who don’t. Terrifying, isn’t it? But Scripture says it’s true! There will be ministers who prophesy in His name, cast out demons in His name, and do “many wonders” in His name (v 22); but they won’t get into Heaven because they didn’t know Jesus! Because relationship with God is not about what you do; it’s about Who you know.
Do you know Jesus? That is all that matters! To “know” is the Greek word ginosko (Strong’s G1097), which means to gain intimate knowledge of a person through first-hand experience. So I ask you again: do you know Jesus? Is your faith deeper than just knowing about Jesus? Have you felt the presence of His Holy Spirit? Have you heard the whisper of His voice? Have you collapsed under the wonderful weight of His infinite love and forgiveness, overcome with gratefulness for His sacrificial death on the Cross?
One thing – and only one – matters for your eternal fate. Do you know Jesus?
“But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.” – Lk. 10:42
Prayer:
Jesus, I want to know You! I pray You would make Yourself real to me today. I refuse to be satisfied with knowing about You! I want to receive Your love and experience Your presence first-hand, in Jesus’ name.
