Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
“The priests…shall have no part nor inheritance with Israel; they shall eat the offerings of the Lord made by fire, and His portion. Therefore they shall have no inheritance among their brethren; the Lord is their inheritance, as He said to them.” – Deut. 18:1-2
You are, “…a chosen generation, a royal priesthood” (1 Pet. 2:9). You are a New Testament priest of God in Jesus Christ. And that means that your inheritance is no longer of this world! Your inheritance is Jesus. The Lord Himself is your inheritance!
By the way, that is not a letdown. That doesn’t mean He won’t bless you on this Earth. His blessings will still make you rich, and He won’t add any sorrow to it (Prov. 10:22)! What your priestly status means is that no matter what happens in your life on this Earth, you have an inheritance in Heaven that will never fade away. You belong to Jesus; and Jesus is yours. And nothing and no one can ever take that away.
Prayer:
Jesus, thank You for being my inheritance. I pray I would live for You: nothing and no one else! I will lay down the cares and concerns of this world, and take up a heavenly affection for You, in Jesus’ name.
