Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Now it came to pass, about eight days after these sayings, that He took Peter, John, and James and went up on the mountain to pray. – Lk. 9:28
When you pray, do you pray alone? Or do you allow Jesus to lead you into prayer. Jesus went up to the mountain to pray; but He didn’t go alone. “He took Peter, John, and James” (v 28). Jesus led His disciples into prayer, instead of sending them off to pray by themselves!
That has significant implications for your prayer life. You don’t have to pray alone anymore! Every time you go to pray, you have a choice: will you try to pray on your own, or will you pray with the Spirit of Jesus. Will you pray according to your own personal wants and desires, or will you allow Jesus to fill you with His wants and desires for your life through the power of His Holy Spirit?
Jesus wants to pray with you. His Holy Spirit lives inside of you; and the “Spirit also helps in our weaknesses” (Rom. 8:26). Don’t drag yourself into prayer! Let the Holy Spirit lead you. And when you do, you will never be bored or powerless in prayer again.
Prayer:
Father, thank You that when I pray, Your Holy Spirit – the Spirit of Jesus – prays with me and through me! I know Jesus loves prayer. I know Jesus loves praying with me! And I am so grateful that You see fit to honor my time in prayer in that way.
