Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
“Let your waist be girded and your lamps burning; and you yourselves be like men who wait for their master, when he will return from the wedding, that when he comes and knocks they may open to him immediately.” – Lk. 12:35-36

Are you ready for Jesus? If He came back tomorrow, would you be able to stand before Him, comfortable with the spiritual state you are in?

Jesus cautioned His disciples to stay ready. He would be back! Not even He knew when (Mk. 13:32). And as they waited for Him, they only had two responsibilities:

1) “Let your waist be girded…”

A girded waist represents being armed with the Word of God. Ephesians 6:14 says, “Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth…”. Are you armed with the Word of God? When something unexpected happens in your life, do you have so much memorized Scripture in your heart that the first thing to come popping out is the Word of God?

2) “…and your lamps burning;”

Are you more in love with Jesus than ever before? Are you spending time with Him? Are you passionately enamored with Him? When you talk to other people, do you have the gleam of Jesus in your eye?

You might be stuck in a time of waiting right now. But you can still be active. Arm yourself with the word. Spend time with Jesus! And when He returns, you will be ready.

Prayer:

Jesus, make me ready. I want to know Your Word like never before! I want to seek Your face like never before! I recognize I have a tremendous opportunity right now to wait well: with steady hope and persistent expectation for everything You are about to do next.
