Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
“Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” – Lk. 12:40

God comes “at an hour you do not expect.” He’s often silent while you’re seeking Him in prayer, only to speak while you’re in the middle of an otherwise important task. He often seems like He’s out to lunch when you really need an answer, only to drop the solution into your lap when you’ve all but given up hope that He will speak at all!

Why does He show up “at an hour you do not expect?” To remind you that He is in control. To remind you that You cannot twist His arm. To remind you to lean and rely on Him every moment of every day, because the moment He shows up will not be the moment you expect Him to.

The task, then, is not to try and predict when and how He will arrive! It is to be ready at all times. To live a lifestyle of prayer and fasting: steady and consistent seeking of the Lord that leaves you ready for a powerful encounter with Him whenever He decides to show up. You cannot predict or control Him; but you can be ready when He arrives.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for coming at an hour I do not expect! Your unpredictable timing keeps me humble and reliant on You, and I am grateful for that. Help me to never be frustrated because I think You’re taking too long. Instead, help me to be full of joy because I know the God of the universe is coming!
