Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Wealth gained by dishonesty will be diminished, but he who gathers by labor will increase. – Prov 13:11

We live in a world full of get-rich-quick schemes. Social media marketers constantly vie for your attention, promising that new followers will translate into financial gain. Authors rave about four-hour workweeks: ways to work less, and vacation more. Hustlers cold-call and stop you on the street, offering thrown-together recipes for overnight success.

But Scripture offers a different approach: don’t take shortcuts. Put the work in. He who gathers by labor will increase.

If you want to build something that lasts, you have to work! Labor is the Hebrew yad (Strong’s H3027), which means “hand.” Your body is filled with God’s Holy Spirit; so when you put your hand – a part of your body – to work, the Holy Spirit will multiply the fruit of your labor. God’s promise is that He will, “…make you abound in all the wok of your hand” (Deut 30:9)! So, put your hand to something, and God will bless it!

Prayer:

Father, fill me with supernatural motivation to work! I want to labor for the things You tell me to labor for. I know that when I put my hand to work, You will bless the work of my hand, in Jesus’ name!
