Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

And so it was, when they had crossed over, that Elijah said to Elisha, “Ask! What may I do for you, before I am taken away from you?” Elisha said, “Please let a double portion of your spirit be upon me.” – 2 Kings 2:9

There is a time to be humble, and a time to be bold. This was Elisha’s moment, and he knew it. He would have gained nothing by bashfully brushing off Elijah’s request; but because he was bold and asked for a double portion of the anointing, he would be blessed!

When God asked Solomon what he wanted – anything in the world – Solomon didn’t hesitate. Wisdom. When Elijah asked Elisha what he could do for him – anything – he didn’t bat an eye. A double portion. When God asks you what you want, will you be ready?

Prayer:

Father, help me to know what You want for me! Give me vision for my life; and tell me what to ask for when I pray so every one of my desires lines up with Yours!
