Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome. – 1 Jn 5:3
The difference between loving and hating God’s commandments is love. If you know God loves you, you will do whatever He asks with a smile on your face. If you don’t understand the depths of His love, however, keeping His commandments will be the most burdensome undertaking you could ever attempt.
Do you feel like you have to keep His commandments? Or do you understand that you get to? God’s love makes the difference. God gives us His word so that we can live in true freedom, and never have to settle for a counterfeit.
Prayer:
Father, help me to know the depths of Your love. Help me to serve You without fear! I love You because You first loved me.
