Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
But when they saw it, they all complained, saying, “He has gone to be a guest with a man who is a sinner.” – Lk 19:7

Jesus wanted to dine with the “chief tax collector” (v 2). He loved to spend time with sinners! When the religious leaders saw it, they complained. Why would Jesus spend time with a man knee-deep in sin, instead of religious people who had their act together?

Jesus is, “…a friend of tax collectors and sinners” (Matt 11:19). Have you messed up? God is not mad at you. He doesn’t hate you because you’ve made some mistakes. On the contrary, He wants to spend time with you. Why? Because the only thing that will restore you is His presence.

When Jesus heard it, He said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.” – Mk 2:17

Prayer:

Father, thank You for loving a sinner like me. I don’t always have my act together; but I always have You! You are my God, and I love spending time in Your presence, in Jesus’ name.
