Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
“I sent the hornet before you which drove them out from before you, also the two kings of the Amorites, but not with your sword or with your bow. I have given you a land for which you did not labor, and cities which you did not build, and you dwell in them; you eat of the vineyards and olive groves which you did not plant.” – Josh 24:12-13

God’s people experienced a lot of victories. But their victories didn’t come because they were good at fighting; they came because they had the Lord on their side. Their victories didn’t come by “sword” or “bow;” they came because God drove their enemies out from before them!

God’s people were blessed in the Promised Land. But they weren’t enjoying the good life because they deserved it or had earned it; God had given them “a land for which [they] did not labor, and cities which [they] did not build!”

Every good thing you have in your life is a gift from God. It would have been blasphemy for God’s people to turn around and act like they had fought those battles, when God had given victory into their hand. It would have been offensive for God’s people to act like they had built their cities, when God had caused them to inherit territory they didn’t deserve!

Every blessing you have in your life comes from God’s hand. Take a moment this morning to acknowledge Him as the source!

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. – Jas 1:17

Prayer:

Father, I am blessed! And I recognize You as the source. Thank You for blessing me in so many ways, in Jesus’ name.
