CityLight Pastor Commentary:
“You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life” (Jn 5:39-40). The Pharisees knew the Scriptures inside and out, yet they missed God Himself moving right in front of their eyes. We must always do our best to avoid falling into the same pattern! Reading God’s Word should not be a mundane routine; it should give us life! The Holy Spirit we see active in Scripture is the same Holy Spirit who lives inside of us! It is not memorization of Scripture that earns us salvation, but rather belief in God’s Only Son. Jesus Christ promises that whoever believes in Him shall have everlasting life (Jn 5:24). Give God permission to show you supernatural things in your own life: even in situations which seem impossible.
Prayer:
Father, thank You that Your Holy Spirit lives in me! I expect to see the same works in my own life that I see written in the Book of Acts, because the same Holy Spirit lives in me and is still at work!
