Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
The beginning of strife is like releasing water; Therefore stop contention before a quarrel starts. – Prov. 17:14

The best time to stop conflict is before it starts. And the best way to stop conflict is a prayerful, patient response. Listen before acting. Take a deep breath before responding. Take a walk before returning fire.

Once water is released, two things happen:

1) It quickly gains momentum. The weight of additional water that wants to come out and follow suit creates a tremendous amount of pressure that breaks and tears the mechanism holding it in. In other words, conflict escalates quickly and soon becomes something more damaging than you thought it could be.

2) It cannot be gathered back up again. Water is not solid. It seeps into the ground. It cannot be scooped up again and put away as it once was. In other words, the effects of conflict are permanent. Things will never be the same.

We are at a moment of divisive conflict in our nation. And now is our only chance to stop it before it is fully released. Please pray.

Prayer:

Father, I speak healing over our nation. I pray that systemic injustice would be rectified. I pray that hate and harbored resentment would be expelled. We ask for a level of healing over these United States that only repentance can bring, in Jesus’ name!
