Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

I sleep, but my heart is awake; it is the voice of my beloved! He knocks… – Song 5:2

God is speaking, even when you are asleep. When He knocks, will you hear Him? When your mind and body sleep, keep your heart awake! Invite God to speak to you through dreams every single night before you go to bed. When you ask, He honors your request!

One of the primary ways God speaks to His people is through dreams. In Matthew 1 and 2, for example, we see New Testament Scripture open with a flurry of dreams. There are five dreams in the first two chapters of Matthew’s account of the Gospel. I believe that sets a precedent that, as part of our New Testament relationship with Jesus, God wants to speak to us while we sleep!

Prayer:

Speak Lord – Your servants are listening! Even as I sleep, keep my heart awake. Speak to me. Even as I am sleeping, I know You are knocking.
