Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Brethren, I speak in the manner of men: Though it is only a man’s covenant, yet if it is confirmed, no one annuls or adds to it. – Gal 3:15

Once a covenant is established, it cannot be changed. If a legal document is signed by two parties, it cannot be changed or annulled unless both parties agree. Nothing can be added to the agreement, and nothing can be taken away. If that is true for a legal agreement between two human beings, how much more for a legal agreement between God and man!

God promises never to leave you or forsake you (Deut 31:6). He promises to separate you from your sin as far as the East is from the West (Ps 103:12). He promises that when you believe in Jesus, all your sins are forgiven and you become a new creation in Christ (2 Cor 5:17)!

His covenant cannot change. His promise still stands: no matter how far gone you think you are. There is no sin so great that it can overshadow the finished work of the Cross. You are redeemed and set free in Jesus’ name!

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your permanent covenant. Thank You that I cannot lose my salvation by messing up. I know that as long as I still believe in Jesus, the covenant still stands!
