Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
“And the Lord will make a difference between the livestock of Israel and the livestock of Egypt. So nothing shall die of all that belongs to the children of Israel.” – Ex. 9:4

This was the fifth of ten plagues that Moses pronounced over the people of Egypt. Because Pharaoh refused to let God’s people go, pestilence would wipe out the flocks and herds of Egypt. But notice that there was “a difference” between God’s people and those who did not know Him!

When you belong to God, two things will happen. First, God will protect you. God made sure that the curse completely missed the people of Israel. Their flocks and herds – i.e. their possessions – were completely protected. There is safety in God’s presence! While the rest of the world panicked, God’s people could rest. When you belong to God, the things that afflict the world will have no hold on you.

Second, God will give you eternal impact. God’s promise to His people was not jut about livestock! He said, “…nothing shall die of all that belongs to the children of Israel” (v 4). When you belong to God, the things you do on this Earth will stand the test of time. Wouldn’t you love to live every day knowing that you will leave a legacy on this earth? That the things you accomplish will never die and fade away?

Give your life to God. He will protect you here and now; and He will make sure that everything you do in His name will last for eternity.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for protection! And thank You for eternal impact. I’m so glad I get to live my life from the perspective of eternity. I know that everything I do has purpose; and I thank You for it, in Jesus’ name!
