Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

The works of the Lord are great, studied by all who have pleasure in them. – Ps 111:2

We study the word of God because it gives us pleasure! To “study” is the Hebrew darash[1], which means to seek out – to inquire and require. Every time you open the word of God, you are inquiring of Him. You are asking Him, “Lord, what timeless truth can I apply to my life, here and now?” At the same time, you are also requiring of Him: demonstrating that you need His word more than you need the air you breathe, and refusing to make choices until you hold them up to the light of His truth.

Is cracking open your Bible your favorite part of the day? When you have a long day at work, do you unwind by reflecting on God’s word? Pleasure comes from studying God’s word. If a love for God’s word doesn’t naturally spring up out of you, ask Him to cultivate it in you! The Holy Spirit lives in you, and He will illuminate truth through God’s word like never before when you give Him the chance.

Prayer:

Father, I want to take pleasure in Your word. Give me abundant joy every single time I open my Bible, in Jesus’ name!
