Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

…lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble… – Heb 12:15

Bitterness is contagious. If we allow ourselves to be bitter in one area of our lives, that sentiment will soon spill over into others. If we allow ourselves to be bitter at certain times of day, that emotion will soon take over our schedule. Bitterness must be confronted and rooted out immediately, before it takes hold of our lives. Just as weeds will take over a lawn if left unchecked, bitterness will wreak havoc on the terrain of our heart unless we deal with it decisively.

The opposite of bitterness is gratefulness. Take a couple minutes to say “thank you” to God for everything He’s done. Praise and thanksgiving will cancel any hold bitterness is trying to take in your life – once and for all. Instead of staying bitter, be grateful!

Prayer:

Father, thank You for everything You have done in my life. I don’t deserve Your love and affection, but You have showered me in it all the same. Thank You!
