Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Now the hand of the Lord had been upon me the evening before the man came who had escaped. And He had opened my mouth; so when he came to me in the morning, my mouth was opened, and I was no longer mute. – Ezek 33:22

A messenger ran to Ezekiel to deliver terrible news: Jerusalem had been captured! But Ezekiel wasn’t distressed. In fact, he wasn’t even upset. Why? Because he knew the news was coming. The hand of the Lord had been upon him the night before. God had visited him and told him everything that was about to happen. When the messenger arrived, Ezekiel knew exactly what to say: his “mouth was opened.” He didn’t have to gasp in shock and try to find the words, because God had already told him what to do!

This is what happens when we spend time with the Lord: nothing can surprise us! God will speak to us in advance when we give Him the chance. He will make us ready for whatever comes our way.

Surely the Lord God does nothing, unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets. – Amos 3:7

Prayer:

Father, thank You for speaking to me! Help me to make time to listen to You every day so I know what’s coming, and I’m never caught by surprise.
