Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
While he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent to him, saying, “Have nothing to do with that just Man, for I have suffered many things today in a dream because of Him.” – Matt 27:19

Pilate was about to make the worst decision of his life. He sat on the judgment seat, deciding whether or not to give in to the demands of the people who wanted to crucify Jesus. From our vantage point, we know that Pilate made a bad decision; but then and there, in that moment, God gave him one last chance!

God warned Pilate. God spoke to Pilate’s wife in a dream: “Have nothing to do with that just Man!” If he had listened, Pilate would have been spared from doing something he would regret for the rest of eternity. But Pilate didn’t listen.

What’s especially encouraging to me is that Pilate and his wife were not even Christians! They didn’t know Jesus! But God spoke to them all the same. And If He speaks to people who don’t know Jesus, how much more will He speak to us: people who do!

If you are about to do something you shouldn’t do, God will warn you! He will speak to you with visions and dreams in an effort to prevent you from doing something that might be damaging to your future. He will speak to you to prevent you from doing something that will contradict His plan! God will warn you through dreams so you don’t do something destructive. Will you pay attention when He does?

Prayer:

Father, thank You for warning me. Thank You for speaking to me through dreams! When You speak, help me to listen. Keep me from doing evil, in Jesus’ name!
