Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
And behold, one of the rulers of the synagogue came, Jairus by name. And when he saw [Jesus], he fell at His feet and begged Him earnestly, saying, “My little daughter lies at the point of death. Come and lay Your hands on her, that she may be healed, and she will live.” – Mk. 5:22-23

Jairus was a very religious man. As one of the rulers of the synagogue, people came to him for answers day in and day out. But eventually he encountered a crisis to which he didn’t have an answer. His daughter was sick, “…at the point of death” (v 23). And even Jairus –  who was by no means a Christian – knew that the only One who could heal her was Jesus.

Knowing answers is not the same as knowing Jesus. It is good to educate yourself with theology and psychology and have your thoughts and opinions on how the world works. But when you hit a crisis head-on, head knowledge won’t be enough. Knowing about God in your head can never match receiving Jesus in your heart! So if you’ve done the first, it’s time to do the second. Receive Jesus before you hit that crisis. He will walk through it with you, so you never have to walk alone.

Prayer:

Jesus, I want to know You! I know that all the knowledge in the world can’t solve problems like pain and suffering. I need You: because You alone can save my soul.
