Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
“Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: ‘I am the Lord your God. According to the doings of the land of Egypt, where you dwelt, you shall not do; and according to the doings of the land of Canaan, where I am bringing you, you shall not do; nor shall you walk in their ordinances. You shall observe My judgments and keep My ordinances, to walk in them: I am the Lord your God.’” – Lev 18:2-4

God made one thing especially clear to Moses: His people were not supposed to adopt the dominant culture of the places they lived. They were to avoid adopting the culture of Egypt – the place of their past; and they were also to avoid adopting the culture of Canaan – the place of their future. Instead, they were to keep God’s judgments and His ordinances: to walk differently than the people around them!

God has called you to walk differently. Your task is to engage culture with the Gospel; but it is not to conform to culture. Don’t allow cultural pressures – of our society, or of your workplace or family – to bend your commitment to the word of God! He made you to walk differently; and He did it on purpose.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for creating me to walk differently. Help me to engage with the culture around me, but not to conform to it! I want to keep Your commandments and walk in them, no matter what the people around me think: in Jesus’ name!
