Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. – Matt 6:34

Do you worry about the future? Do you worry about where you’re going to live, and how you’re going to afford to live there? Do you worry about whom you’re going to marry, and how you’re going to meet him (or her)? Do you worry about the children you don’t even have yet, and what their life is going to be like?

Worrying about tomorrow limits your ability to focus on today. Worrying about tomorrow makes today impossible to enjoy! But today has so much to offer! This is the day the Lord has made (Ps 118:24); so let us rejoice and be glad in it! Today is a gift from God; so let’s not waste it by focusing so much on tomorrow, that today passes us by.

Be present in the here and now. Focus on the opportunity God has given you in the day called today! Stop and smell the flowers. Stop and talk to someone you’re always too busy to meet. Stop and laugh over something silly. Advance planning is wise; but worry is foolish. God has already promised you a bright future; so what is there to worry about?

Prayer:

Father, help me to be present today. I want to be present for my family. I want to be present for my friends! I want to be present at work. Help me never to let planning for the future overtake my joy for the present, in Jesus’ name!
