CityLight Pastor Commentary:

“I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him. And it shall be that whoever will not hear My words, which He speaks in My name, I will require it of him” (Deut 18:18-19). Here, as Moses gives his farewell address to the people of Israel, the Messiah is promised. Although Israel was losing the greatest prophet the world had ever seen with the death of Moses, they should hope for an even greater Prophet who would rise up out of Israel. God gives His people a choice: if we hear Jesus’ words and believe them, we will be saved; but if we will not hear His words, God will require judgment. We are saved by grace, through faith (Eph 2:8). All that is required to assure a restored relationship with God is confession of authentic belief in His Son Jesus Christ.

Prayer:

Father, thank You that You promised Your Son Jesus Christ from the foundation of the world. Thank You that He died on our behalf, suffering the punishment we deserve so that we can live for all eternity in heaven with You!
